of honor

Lego, the world-renowned construction toy, has been revolutionizing the lives of wheelchair-bound individuals since its invention in 1949. For those with limited or challenging mobility, Lego has been a blessing – providing not only hours of entertainment, but more importantly a platform to express creativity, hone problem-solving skills, and above all, freedom of movement.

Recently, Lego announced a prestigious new award for wheelchair-bound individuals who have found unique ways to use Lego to overcome physical limitations. The Lego Medal of Honor recognizes outstanding achievement in this area, awarding recipients with a plaque and a custom-made Lego set.

One of the recipients, Valentino Postiglione, a disabled double amputee, has found a unique way to use Lego to help him out of his wheelchair and onto his feet. With the help of a customized Lego wheelchair that is tailor-made to his physical needs, Valentino is now able to stand up and move around with his own two legs.

Not only does this allow him to explore and interact with his environment in a way previously unavailable to him, but it also opens up a world of possibilities for Valentino to pursue activities and passions that he otherwise never would have considered.

Not only does Valentino’s story exemplify the positive physical benefits of Lego for people with disabilities, but it is also inspiring others who face similar struggles. Similarly, Lego has provided the materials and tools for people with disabilities to build almost anything imaginable, from mini robots and working cars to entire scale models of cities and buildings.

The Lego Medal of Honor should serve as a reminder to all of us of the powerful ways in which Lego can be utilized to help with disability-related challenges and to improve the quality of life for those living with limited accessibility. People with disabilities can now be empowered and take control of their physical limitations in ways previously unavailable. Lego is greatly improving the lives of countless individuals every day, and that is certainly something that’s worth being honored.
